As part of Del Mar College's observance of Native American Heritage Month, the Diversity and Ethnic Awareness and Training Committee presents a very hands-on, interactive learning experience that will engage participants in diversity awareness and team building.
Only 75 participants will receive a drum for interactive participation, but everyone is welcome to observe and learn from facilitator Nina Rodriguez.
Representative of the versatile contemporary percussionist, Rodriguez recorded studio tracks for Randy Travis' Grammy Award-winning album Rise and Shine as well as mobilized her percussion skills for live music, other studio recordings and extra-curricular activities that employ percussion to lift the spirit. Her facilitated program will energize participants with the phenomenal power of drums to build collaboration, create vision and feel the power of success.
Attendees can also view the U.S. Library of Congress Native American pictorial display titled "Many Nations" provided by the William F. White Jr. Library.
This event is also co-sponsored by the DMC Cultural Programs Committee, White Library, DMC Student Diversity Awareness Organization, DMC Chapter of the Texas Association of Chicanos in Higher Education, the Student Leadership and Campus Life Office and Drumming with Nina.
Reservations are required to engage in Rodriguez's drum circle session on a first come, first served basis, but everyone is invited to observe. Contact Tamatha Jackson, DMC Assistant Director of TRiO, at 698-2247 or tjackson@delmar.edu
