OSO RECREATION CENTER OFFERS Fall & Spring 2009-2010 CLASSES

Guitar & Bass Guitar Classes will be offered by the Corpus Christ Parks & Recreation Department on Thursdays for ages 7-17 at Oso Recreation Center, 1111 Bernice. The Beginners Class will be held from 5pm-6pm and the Advanced Class will be held from 6pm-7pm. Want to learn to play the guitar, or take your skills to the next level, but don't know where to start? Now, here's your chance! Learn to tune the guitar, the anatomy of the guitar, vocabulary, basic technique, chords/melodies and the latest rock licks from various artists. Guitars are available, but limited. Students can bring their own acoustic or electric guitars. Professional instruction will be provided by Gabriel Perez. Cost is $5 per class. Zumba Fitness Class is offered by the Corpus Christ Parks & Recreation Department on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6pm-6:45pm for ages 18 and older at Oso Recreation Center, 1111 Bernice. Zumba is the latest new craze in fitness and is inspired by Latin dance. If you are looking for a fun and exciting way to stay fit and learn different styles of Latin dance, this is the class for you! Come in and join the fun and try something new! Arnis Class will be offered by the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30pm-8pm for youth and adults at the Oso Recreation Center, 1111 Bernice. Arnis is a Filipino weapon-based martial art that focuses on agility, quick reflexes, and eye-hand coordination. Arnis is used as a self-defense foundation for law enforcement, military Special Forces and security personnel. This exotic martial art is also a great way to stay fit and can improve skills in other sports. Professional instruction will be provided by

Rene Cantu. Adult class (ages 18-up) is $50 per month or a $10 drop-in fee. Youth class (ages 7-17) is $35 per month or a $5 drop-in fee. Classes start Tuesday, September 1st. Registration is ongoing. For more information, call 361-991-3700.

Computer Animation 101 Class will be offered by the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department on Tuesdays from 4:30pm-5:30pm for ages 8 and older at the Oso Recreation Center, 1111 Bernice. Come and join us in this fun filled 4-week camp where you will learn a new programming language that will allow you to create your own interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art. Texas Techies Computer Camps are designed to help young people develop 21st century learning skills. As they create and share projects, young people learn important mathematical and computational ideas, while also learning to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively. This camp is customized for beginner to advanced students. Skills learned will enable the students to participate in the upcoming 'Scratch-Off Competition' on November 21st where the top prize is a laptop computer. Professional instruction will be provided by Liza Wisner. Class is $40 per month or a $15 drop-in fee. Class will start during the Fall. Registration is ongoing. Adult Computer Course will be offered by the Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department on Thursdays from 3:30pm-4:30pm for ages 18 and older at the Oso Recreation Center, 1111 Bernice. Everyone learns best by doing. By weaving up-front instruction and demonstration with hands-on learning, Texas Techies Computer Courses will give you a head start in the fast-paced world of technology. A brand new laptop with a wireless Internet connection will be provided. Class includes, but is not limited to Introduction to Computers, Keyboarding, Internet Basics and Email, Digital Picture Management, Digital Video Editing and Adventures in Web Design. Professional instruction will be provided by Liza Wisner. Class is $80 for 2 months or a $15 drop-in fee. Class will start during the Fall. Registration is ongoing.
